The safety of onion is reflected by its worldwide use as a vegetable WHO, 1999 ; . COMPARATIVE EFFICACY: Not available. LITERATURE REPORTS: The co-administration of onion with a high-fat snack had positive effects on alimentary hyperlipidemia. Ten healthy adult males consumed 100 grams of butter with four slices of bread and serum cholesterol, plasma fibrinogen, and fibrinolytic activity were assessed. The subjects randomly received onion juice or its ether extract or garlic juice or its ether extract. Since onion and garlic were not directly compared, only the results of onion administration will be presented here. Onion was ingested as a single dose and was freshly extracted from 50 grams of onion; the essential oil was prepared by ether extraction of the juice and encapsulated. Simultaneous consumption of butter and onion juice resulted in an increase of 9.8% in coagulation time, which from butter alone had decreased by 13.3% p less than 0.01 fibrinolytic activity increased by 15.7% after the initial decrease of 48.6% from fat-only administration p less than 0.005 ; . Plasma fibrinogen levels increased by 28.4% after butter administration and onion juice again reduced these levels to baseline. The rise in serum cholesterol produced by the fatty snack was completely prevented with onion juice co-administration p less than 0.05 ; . Results of administration of onion extract mimicked those of onion juice Bordia et al, 1975; Bordia et al, 1972 ; . Onion and chaunga effectively ameliorated the hyperlipidemic effects of a highfat diet. Eight healthy subjects consumed a high-fat diet for 7 days and then were co-administered 100 grams of onion or 100 grams chaunga daily for the next week. The high- fat diet resulted in a significant increase p less than 0.05 ; in serum cholesterol SC ; of 17.6%, in serum triglycerides STG ; of 15.8%, and in serum total lipids STL ; of 12%. Co-administration of onion for 1 week lead to a decrease in SC of 12.2% p less than 0.05 ; , in STG of 12% p less than 0.05 ; , and STL of 7.9% not significant ; Bakhsh & Khan, 1990 and triphasil.

Migration behavior expressed as effective mobility 7 ; meets these requirements. This quantity called simply mobility in this article ; may be described as the mobility of the analyte with dimensions of cm2 Vs ; corrected for the mobility of electroosmotic flow. We have found inter-day mobility to be highly reproducible with coefficients of variation CV ; or relative standard deviation RSD ; less than 0.3%. Figure 2 illustrates the CVs on mobility for 20 different drugs run every day for four months. This high degree of reproducibility means two things: 1 ; in most cases, the list of possibilities truly is a short list; and 2 ; a given peak can be eliminated as a possibility with a high degree of confidence. First of all, this means that confirmation of a suspected positive case is simpler because there are fewer 2 Figure 1. Screening blood for basic drugs. possibilities to consider and, second, it means that the negative case is identified quickly and reliably. Both factors are important in our operation and provide a high degree of confidence that false positives and, more importantly, false negatives can be avoided.

Assembly to detect dissolved organic and inorganic compounds. The probes consist of a silicon transistor with proprietary organic coatings, which govern the probe's sensitivity and selectivity. Measurement is potentiometric, with readings taken against an Ag AgCl reference electrode. Each probe is cross-selective to allow coverage of full taste profile. At the circuit level, the system samples, quantifies, digitizes, and records potentio-meter readings. At the perceptual level, taste cognition happens not in the probe, but in the computer, where the e-tongue's statistical software interprets the sensor data into taste patterns. Depending on the study design, data analysis can produce a variety of information. Table II summarizes some broad perceptual recognition options. Initial taste optimization studies explore the formulation properties with principle component analysis PCA ; , discriminating among subtle differences in the formulation to display a large "distance" between samples see Figure 2 ; . | Focus on foods that seem to provoke symptoms. Certain foods such as corn, legumes, and dairy products may be associated with increased symptoms. Food intolerances, particularly milk and alcohol should be identified to help differentiate such things as lactase deficiency and alcohol induced diarrhea. The physical exam includes an abdominal and rectal exam. The abdominal exam will pinpoint the locality of the pain and any distention. The rectal exam is to identify any fissures groves ; , fistulas tracts running to another part of the body ; , or ulcers, which would signal a diagnosis other than irritable bowel syndrome IBS ; , such as Crohn's disease. A stool for occult blood should be done to establish a differential diagnosis other than irritable bowel syndrome IBS ; as well. A sigmoidoscope a tube with a light to examine the lower colon ; or a colon exam is done if there is rectal bleeding, weight loss, anemia, or polyps usually fibrous ; are found with the scope. Management of irritable bowel syndrome IBS ; often includes reassurance, stress reducing activities, life style changes, dietary changes, drug therapy, and referrals if necessary. For children who present with both diarrhea and constipation, the Doctor should determine which is the most pressing symptom and manage accordingly. Foods to avoid in diets include: disaccharides, salad dressings, gravy, alcohol, sauces, coffee, tea, and cola drinks if they worsen symptoms milk or milk products should be excluded if lactose intolerance is confirmed, limiting Sorbitol and Mannitol may help decrease diarrhea; beans, lentils, Brussel sprouts, and cabbage, if flatus increases with these foods. Tobacco use is another issue to discontinue due to symptoms. Diets with high-fiber and stool-bilking agents such as bran may help constipation. Antispasmodics may help relieve the pain of intestinal cramps example Dicyclomine Bentyl ; and Hyoscyamine Levsin ; side effect is dryness of the mouth ; , antidiarrheal drugs can be treated with Diphenoxylate Lomotil ; or Loperamide imodium ; for symptomatic relief, some anti depressants such as Amitriptyline Elavil ; , Doxepin Sinequan ; , Imipramine Tofranil ; , Fluoxetine Prozac ; , and Trasodone Deseryl ; have been reported by some to be helpful with chronic pain of irritable bowel syndrome IBS ; due to there therapeutic effects in irritable bowel syndrome IBS ; unrelated to underlying depression or mood improvement. And education is always an important aspect of medical care, especially in dietary management, avoidance of precipitating factors, and control of stress response. Follow-up care is also important. If at the end of 6 months there has not been significant improvement, your Doctor should consider referring you or your child to a specialist. Crohn's Disease Crohn's disease in an inflammation of the intestinal tract. It can affect any portion of the tract from the mouth to the rectum, mostly affecting the small and large.

Overdose Human Experience In some cases, QT prolongation, cardiac arrest and serious and potentially fatal arrhythmias including ventricular tachycardia or fibrillation or torsades de pointes have occurred at overdoses as low as 360 mg and up to 15 hours after the dose Symptoms Dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, tiredness, dizziness, confusion, headache, tremor, in some cases seizures. Sinus tachycardia, hypotension, palpitation, ventricular arrhythmias mainly torsades de pointes ; . Cardiac reactions might occur without CNS symptoms. Management Cardiac monitoring for at least 24 hours and control of QT interval is recommended, along with standard measures to remove any unabsorbed drug. Temporary cardiac pacing is the suggested mode of therapy in recurrent episode of torsades de pointes.
There is a significant literature on the sexual sideeffects of antidepressant drugs one review Ellison, 1998 ; cites 118 references. All types of antidepressants, including monoamine oxidase inhibitors, tricyclics and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors SSRIs ; are implicated in a variety of sexual problems affecting libido, arousal and ejaculation. Depression per se is also associated with sexual problems and it is, therefore, important for clinicians to enquire carefully as to what specific phase of the sexual response cycle is affected. There are now specific diagnostic criteria for antidepressant-induced sexual dysfunction in DSMIV, subsumed under category 292.89. It is likely that as up to 50% of patients treated with SSRIs may develop sexual dysfunction, mainly related to delayed or absent ejaculation or orgasm. These drugs may also be involved in erectile failure. Once an antidepressant-induced sexual dysfunction has been established, appropriate treatment may involve a reduction in the offending medication, a `drug holiday' or a change to a different antidepressant. The antidepressants that are least likely to affect sexuality are nefazodone, mirtazapine and reboxetine. Occasionally, patients treated with SSRIs may report increases in sexual desire. The drugs implicated here are trazodone, bupropion and, much less frequently, venlafaxine, paroxetine and fluoxetine. Tdazodone is the drug most frequently associated with priapism Warner et al, 1987 ; . This problem has also been reported with phenothiazines, butyrophenones and benzisoxazoles Patel et al, 1996 ; . Antipsychotic drugs, however, have a predominantly depressant effect on sexual function through their effects on the dopaminergic system.
The commenter also noted that fda has issued apposable letters for cfc-free versions of all the above moieties except epinephrine and ipratripium, and concluded that even if these products qualify as ``medical devices, '' the allocation of cfcs is not ``necessary, for example, trazodone recreational.

Descriptive statistics were used to report on the data for cardiovascular drug utilization. The utilization of cardiovascular drug classes described include beta-blockers, calcium antagonists, statins, ACEIs, angiotensin receptor blockers ARBs ; , diuretics, nitroglycerin and oral anticoagulants. For each class of drugs, the trends are described by number of prescriptions and total cost of prescription claims as extrapolated to the total population ; . The utilization of drugs was summarized nationally and for each province by month and year 1996 to 2001 ; . National monthly utilization data, by province and by agent within each class were used to generate figures illustrating the changes in the trends for each drug class over the six-year study period. Absolute changes in drug utilization and expenditures were assessed, as well as the relative per cent changes in these parameters. For combination products of betablockers, ACEIs or ARBs with diuretics, these products were included in the total numbers for the single entity drug product.

Definition issues in the complaints or analyses to aid public comment in settled cases would increase transparency and improve predictability and thus might serve to speed the merger review process to the benefit of both private parties and the Commission. The Need for Speculation. The inescapable role played by speculation is another theme that runs through the articles of this Symposium and pharmaceutical industry antitrust in general. Because the owner of a drug patent has the right to exclude competition from infringing generic products for the term of the patent, a patent settlement that requires the generic firm to stay off the market cannot be the "but-for" cause of harm to competition if the innovator firm would have prevailed in the patent litigation. This inquiry into the likely result of infringement litigation is necessarily speculative, and the FTC staff conceded in the Schering case that "it is impossible to reliably determine . whether the alleged infringers would have prevailed in the infringement suits." 26 Although the FTC staff has tried to avoid the inquiry by arguing that the likely outcome of patent infringement litigation between a branded firm and a generic entrant is irrelevant, 27 that position was rejected by the administrative law judge in the Schering litigation.28 The Eleventh Circuit reached the same result in a private antitrust case.29 If these decisions stand, it is unclear whether the FTC will try its hand at what it said in Schering was the "impossible" task of predicting the outcome of the patent litigation, or instead abandon its enforcement efforts where proof of harm to competition depends upon whether the innovator would have prevailed in the patent litigation. If the staff does decide to try its hand, there is not much comfort to be taken from the FTC's record in predicting patent invalidity. In 1998 the Commission sued VISX, a maker of eye surgery equipment, alleging, inter alia, that several of its patents were invalid, and, indeed, that they had been procured by fraud on the Patent and Trademark Office.30 An administra26 Schering-Plough Corp., Upsher-Smith Labs. & Am. | Objective: Three patients who were brought to hospital because of psychotic symptoms and diagnosed as brucella infection and treated with antibiotics were presented. Cases: Two of the cases were hospitalised in psychiatry clinic and one of them was hospitalised in infectious disease clinic. The average age of three cases is 33. All of the patients had a history of cheese eating. One case had a history of treatment and as acute psychotic attack 4 years ago. All of them had shared symptoms of fever, headache, sweating, weight loss, back pain, vertigo, irritability and restlessness. In psychiatric examination patients were evaluated as irritable, sleep disturbance, impaired orientation, attention and memory, difficulty in cooperation, acceleration and deceleration in thought flow and auditory and visual hallucinations. In one case there were symptoms of neuralgic disorders like nystagmus, ataxia and strabismus. All cases have positive Brucella agglutination test in 1 640 titer. Two cases had positive BOS culture for Brucella and all of them positive blood culture for Brucella. After the antibiotic treatment patients' clinic and laboratory states came to normal. Psychiatric symptoms disappeared. Conclusion: Acute psychotic presentation and increasing psychotic symptoms can be seen in neurobrucellosis. In all of the cases who have psychotic symptoms and also fever and infection; neurobrucellosis should be considered in differential diagnosis.
